Radical Dot at The Drop in Malmö

It is rare to see Andreas Wagner and Alexandre Kremer at the same event. One of them usually stays behind to keep things running.

Next week both of our co-founders will be at The Drop in Malmö.

This year’s theme is “Borrowing from the Future”: capital is being deployed too slowly now for systems we already need today.

European chemicals is already living that gap. The EU has been a net importer of basic chemicals every year since 2019, and roughly 37 million tonnes of basic chemical capacity has closed permanently since 2022, about 9% of the total. Brussels has now started to put basic chemicals on a list of critical resources it wants produced in Europe again.

The question is what “again” looks like. Rebuilding naphtha crackers on imported fossil feedstock reproduces the same cost and dependency problem. Local plastic waste is a feedstock Europe already has, sitting in every municipality.
